Antrim hurling is its own little world. The Glens clubs, the Dunloy and Loughgiel rivalry, the county side trying to hold its own against the big southern counties — and a betting market that most bookies barely bother pricing properly. That thin market is exactly why it's worth understanding before you put a few quid on it. This is the chat I'd give a mate from Ballycastle or Belfast who wants to have a go without getting stung.
Strictly 18+. Every price on this page is an invented example to show the maths, not a tip or a live quote. Cloudbet, the crypto sportsbook we link to, holds a Curaçao licence and is not licensed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI), and it isn't a UK Gambling Commission operator either, so you would have no Irish or UK regulator to complain to. If betting stops being fun, the Northern Ireland helpline is 08000 886 725; in the Republic, Gambling Care / Dunlewey is on 1800 936 725, free and confidential 24/7.

What people mean by "Antrim hurling odds"
When someone types that into a search bar they're usually after one of three things, and they behave completely differently as bets:
- The Antrim Senior Hurling Championship (club): who wins the county title — the outright market the big Irish books list under "Antrim Club Hurling".
- Individual Antrim club games: a quarter-final or semi-final with a match price and, if you're lucky, a handicap.
- The Antrim county team: their price in a league game or championship match against another county, plus "to be relegated" or "to reach the knockout stage" type specials.
The club market is the one with the most character and the most mistakes in it, so most of this guide lives there. If you're more interested in the provincial picture, our pages on the Leinster hurling championship odds and Munster hurling odds cover the round robins, and the All-Ireland winner odds page covers the big outright.
Why Antrim club hurling is a strange market
Antrim senior club hurling is dominated by a small group of clubs, most of them from the north of the county — Dunloy, Loughgiel Shamrocks and Ruairí Óg Cushendall are the names every Antrim hurling person will reel off first, with Belfast clubs such as St John's and O'Donovan Rossa trying to break that grip. Loughgiel have even won the All-Ireland club title, which tells you the standard at the top is real.
For betting, that concentration does three things:
- The favourite is often very short. If one club has won the last few titles, a bookie may open them at something like 4/6 (1.67) for the championship, with everyone else at long prices.
- The book is thin. Very little money is traded on Antrim club hurling compared with, say, a Munster final, so a few bets from people "in the know" can move a price a lot.
- The margin is fat. Low-liquidity markets usually carry a bigger overround. You're paying more for the privilege of betting on something niche.
Stripping the margin from an Antrim outright
Here's an invented outright to show what I mean. Treat these as made-up numbers, not real odds.
| Club (example) | Fraction | Decimal | Implied % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Club A (holders) | 4/6 | 1.67 | 59.9% |
| Club B | 3/1 | 4.00 | 25.0% |
| Club C | 5/1 | 6.00 | 16.7% |
| Club D | 10/1 | 11.00 | 9.1% |
| Club E | 20/1 | 21.00 | 4.8% |
| Rest of field (each 33/1) | 33/1 | 34.00 | 2.9% each |
Add those up with, say, three "rest of field" clubs and you get roughly 124%. That 24% over the top is the bookie's cushion — a much fatter cushion than you'd see on an All-Ireland final. To get a rough "fair" chance for each club, divide each implied percentage by the total. Club A's 59.9% becomes about 48%. In plain words: at 4/6, the market is asking you to believe the holders win more often than not, while the fair maths of that example book says it's closer to a coin flip.
Our odds calculator does the conversion and the margin for you if you'd rather not do sums on the back of a beer mat.
The draw, the format and the each-way question
County championship formats change, and Antrim's has been tweaked over the years between straight knockout and group stages. Before betting the outright, check three things on the county board's fixtures page:
- Is there a group stage? In a group format a favourite can lose a game and still win the title. In straight knockout one bad day ends it, so a short-priced favourite carries more risk than the price suggests.
- Which side of the draw is each club in? Two of the top three clubs drawn in the same half means one of them is out before the final. That can make the third club better value than its price shows.
- Replays or extra time? Most bookie match markets settle on normal time. If a game goes to extra time, a "Club B to win" bet in the 1X2 market is usually a loser if it was level at 60-odd minutes, even if Club B win in extra time. The "to qualify" or "to lift the trophy" market is different. Read the rules.
Each-way on a six- or eight-club outright is rarely offered, and when it is the terms can be stingy (often just a final place at a quarter or a fifth of the odds). On a market with one dominant club, an each-way bet on the second favourite can be a sensible way to have an interest — you get paid something if they reach the final and lose to the holders.
Reading a single Antrim club match
Say it's an Antrim semi-final between two of the north Antrim heavyweights. Invented prices: Club A 8/11 (1.73), draw 9/1 (10.00), Club B 7/4 (2.75). A handicap might be offered at Club A −2 at 10/11 (1.91).
Some things specific to these games:
- Familiarity. These clubs know each other inside out — the same families, the same parishes, the same grudges. Margins in local derbies are often tighter than the league form suggests, which makes the + side of a small handicap interesting.
- County players. If three or four of a club's best players have been involved with the Antrim panel, their club form across the summer may be patchy. When the club championship arrives they're back and sharp. Bookies who don't follow Antrim closely can be slow to price that.
- Injuries and team sheets. The team names often come out late and the programme team can differ from the one that takes the field. Small markets don't always react, and that cuts both ways.
Totals and scoring in Antrim club games
Where a total points line is offered at all, it's usually a rough guess. Club hurling in October can be a different game from the county championship in June: heavier pitches, wetter sliotars, more turnovers and fewer long-range points. A worked sketch (invented): total set at 38.5 points, over 5/6, under 5/6. If the forecast is for a wet Sunday at a tight, sloping club ground, the under starts to look attractive. If it's a dry final in Corrigan Park or a county ground on a good surface, the over may be the better side. Weather apps are your friend; club hurling scoring is very sensitive to conditions.
The Antrim county team: league, championship and specials
The county side has spent recent years moving between tiers — playing in the Leinster championship at times and in the Joe McDonagh Cup at others, with the National League division changing too. The structure for any given year matters more than reputation, so check the current year's format before betting.
The markets you'll typically see for Antrim's county team:
| Market | What it means | Thing to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Match result | Antrim win, draw or lose in 70-odd minutes | Home games in Belfast are a big deal; travel to Kilkenny or Galway is another story. |
| Handicap | Antrim given a head start (e.g. +9.5) against a stronger county | Big handicaps vs top counties are the main market; late goals swing them. |
| Total points | Combined score over/under | Mismatches often go over because the stronger side runs up a score. |
| Relegation / survival | Will Antrim stay up in that tier? | Long-duration bet; fixture order and the final-round permutations matter. |
| Joe McDonagh Cup winner | Outright in the second tier, when Antrim are in it | Promotion rules decide whether the winner goes up; read them. |
For the second-tier competition, our Allianz Hurling League odds page explains how league form does and doesn't carry into the summer.

Sterling, euro and the Northern Ireland question
Here's where Antrim differs from nearly every other hurling page on this site. Antrim is in Northern Ireland, so:
- Different legal regime. The GRAI regulates gambling in the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland has its own separate betting law, which is older and has been under review for years. Our guide on whether sports betting is legal in Northern Ireland walks through it.
- Different currency. A punter in Antrim usually thinks in pounds. Crypto books price everything in the coin you deposit, and many show a euro or dollar equivalent. If you top up from a sterling bank account through an exchange, you pay a currency spread on the way in and again on the way out.
- Different helpline. From Northern Ireland, the number is 08000 886 725. From the Republic it's 1800 936 725.
A quick worked example of the currency drag, all numbers invented: you buy €50 worth of USDT using £43.50 from a sterling account. You bet and break even. You sell back to sterling and receive £42.60 because of the exchange's spread and a small withdrawal fee. Nothing went wrong with your betting, but you're nearly a pound down. Do that every week and it adds up. That's not a reason to never use crypto — just a reason to deposit less often and in bigger, planned chunks rather than topping up every Sunday.
Betting on Antrim hurling with crypto
Most offshore crypto books won't list the Antrim club championship at all; their GAA coverage, where it exists, tends to be the inter-county games. So if you see an Antrim club market, it's usually at an Irish or UK high-street brand. When a crypto book does offer an Antrim county game, a few habits help:
- Use a stablecoin such as USDT or USDC so your stake isn't moving with the bitcoin price while you wait for throw-in.
- Check the network before sending — the wrong network can mean lost funds.
- Bet the handicap rather than an odds-on match price where you can; niche GAA match prices on offshore books can carry big margins.
- Keep a note of every deposit and withdrawal, in both coin and pounds or euro, so you know what you've actually spent.
Our crypto sports betting guide has the full deposit routine, and the withdrawal guide covers getting money back out.
A worked weekend (fake prices, real process)
Picture an Antrim senior hurling semi-final weekend. You've set yourself a £30 / roughly €35 budget for the whole weekend. Invented prices:
- Semi-final 1: Club A 4/9 (1.44), draw 10/1, Club C 9/4 (3.25); handicap Club C +4 at 10/11.
- Semi-final 2: Club B 5/6 (1.83), draw 9/1, Club D 2/1 (3.00).
You think Club A are the better side but that derby familiarity keeps it close, so instead of Club A at 4/9 you take £10 on Club C +4 at 10/11. You fancy Club B but the draw is a real risk, so you take £10 on Club B draw-no-bet if offered, or skip it if not. You keep £10 back and don't use it. If Club C lose by 2, your handicap bet wins (£19.09 returned). If the second game is level after normal time, a draw-no-bet stake comes back. Either way you're done after Sunday — no chasing on the Ulster club fixtures the next week.
Common mistakes with Antrim hurling odds
- Backing the holders at odds-on in a straight knockout without asking how often they actually lose a tight one.
- Forgetting that most match bets settle on normal time, not extra time.
- Assuming a bookie that prices Kilkenny games well knows Antrim club form just as well. They often don't.
- Ignoring the draw in a knockout bracket — two big clubs in one half changes everything.
- Paying exchange spreads every week by topping up crypto in small bits from a sterling account.
- Betting on your own club with money you'd be upset to lose. Loyalty and value rarely line up.
A five-minute routine before any Antrim bet
- Check the format and the draw on the county board site.
- Look at who's back from the county panel and who's injured.
- Strip the margin from the price (or use the calculator).
- Check the weather for the venue.
- Decide stake in advance — flat 2–5% of your bankroll.
- Write down the bet and the reason in one sentence.
Licensing and staying in control
If you're in the Republic, the GRAI has been the regulator since February 2026 and the first remote betting licences took effect from July 2026. If you're in Northern Ireland, separate NI law applies. Either way, offshore crypto sportsbooks such as Cloudbet are not GRAI-licensed and are not UK-licensed, so you don't get Irish or UK complaint routes. Start small, read the terms, and never deposit money you can't afford to lose. Our responsible gambling page lists tools and support. If club hurling bets are spilling into the week, call 08000 886 725 from NI or 1800 936 725 from the Republic — they've heard it all and won't judge.
My take
Antrim hurling odds are a niche market with fat margins, a short-priced favourite most years, and real local knowledge baked into every price move. That combination means the best bets are usually small ones: a handicap on the underdog in a derby, an each-way on the second favourite when the draw splits the big clubs, or simply no bet at all when the price looks wrong. Enjoy the hurling — the Glens on a championship Sunday are worth the trip on their own — and keep the betting as a side dish, not the main course.
Questions players ask
What does Antrim hurling odds usually refer to?
Mostly the Antrim Senior Hurling Championship club outright and its matches, sometimes the Antrim county team's league or championship price. Check which market you're on.
